MATRIX (Multipurpose AIDS Translational Research Information eXchange) Website Launched by CHRP
The California HIV/AIDS Research Program (CHRP) announces the launch of the HIVMATRIX website, a web-based community forum and resource clearinghouse to facilitate and stimulate HIV/AIDS translational and collaborative biomedical research, including collaborations between academic and industry scientists.  We invite you to visit website, become a MATRIX community member, participate in expertise exchange to catalyze HIV biomedical research, and showcase technology developed in your laboratory. We also seek your helpful feedback about this new service.

New Website for HIV AIDS Prevention Providers in Planning Education and Prevention Activities
ChoiceHIV (California HIV Options: Interventions, Collaboration and Everything) contains an exclusive, comprehensive catalogue of HIV/AIDS prevention interventions. Providers may search for appropriate interventions by choosing characteristics that define target populations and other relevant criteria. Extensive additional resources are available to assist in development of evidence-based prevention programs and activities.

Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for Research Teams to Conduct California Systems of Health Care and Prevention Financing, Delivery and Policy Research
At a meeting held on Oct. 24, 2007 in Oakland, California in order to gather input on research priorities in the area of health systems of care and prevention, including policy research, stakeholders indicated that research related to funding formulas under the Ryan White Program and its impact on services in California, as well as research on services to incarcerated populations, were priority research areas. This request for qualifications [PDF] is designed to provide a flexible and rapid mechanism for meeting newly arising research issues of particular relevance to California. It is within this context and role as the agency charged with meeting the HIV/AIDS research challenges of the state that the CHRP is sponsoring this specific research initiative.Qualifications receipt due date: Tuesday, March 18, 2008. Anticipated award period: May 1, 2008 – December 2008.

CHRP Releases Stakeholder Input Survey/Request for Information
CHRP is seeking input from California stakeholders on two topics: research priorities and CHRP’s current research funding opportunities. This information is requested as part of a broader strategic planning process. Responses extended to Friday, February 8 at 5 p.m. PST.

CHRP Announces New Special Opportunity Award Recipients
CHRP is pleased to announce that two research projects that will test promising prevention interventions among African American and Latino MSM and their sexual partners have been selected for funding. These community collaborative research awards are randomized controlled trials of existing interventions that have shown promise of efficacy. The awards are for up to $600,000 over 2.5 years beginning January 2008. The projects are:

Letters of Intent Deadline Extended to Wednesday, August 15 at 3 PM (PST)

CHRP is pleased to announce a new one-time Special Funding Opportunity:
"Testing Promising Interventions Targeting African American and Latino MSM and their Sexual Partners." This community collaborative research award, sponsored by the California State Office of AIDS, provides $600,000 over 30 months to support
the testing of an existing behavioral intervention to determine its effectiveness for reducing HIV risk in these high risk groups. See our Application Guidelines and Instructions. Letters of Intent are due August 13, 2007 and applications are due September 24, 2007. To register for the applicant informational teleconference on Tuesday, August 7, 2007 at 1:00 PM Pacific Time, please send an email chrp@ucop.edu. UARP/APC Embark on New Partnership
On March 15, 2007 Universitywide AIDS Research Program and the AIDS Partnership California formally embarked on a new partnership to fund community-based efforts to end the HIV/AIDS epidemic in California. APC (formerly sponsored by the Northern California Grantmakers) is a collaborative HIV/AIDS grantmaking enterprise currently funded by The Evelyn & Walter Haas, Jr. Fund, The California Healthcare Foundation, and The California Endowment. UARP Announces a Supplemental Call for Applications for HIV Prevention Evaluation Initiatives

Grants are available for:

  • Evaluating Deployment of RNA Testing for Acute HIV Infection in Public Health Settings: Collaborative research awards of up to $325,000 in total costs for a 15 month project period.
  • Developing and Evaluating a New Intervention Targeting African American Women at High Risk for HIV Infection: Collaborative research award of up to $500,000 in total costs for a 30 month project period.

Application Materials for 2007 Grant Cycle Now Available
Application materials are now available pursuant to the 2007 Call for Applications issued by the Universitywide AIDS Research Program on Nov. 14, 2006. Grants are available for:

  • Innovative, Developmental Exploratory Awards (IDEAs) for individual investigators
  • Community Collaborative Research Awards for two collaborating investigators
  • Research Training Awards for dissertation, postdoctoral, biomedical translational postdoctoral, or clinical research fellowships

The deadline for application submission is April 3, 2007. Community Collaborative applicants must submit a Letter of Intent (LOI) by February 6 , 2007. Letters of Intent and Applications must be submitted online by the deadline.

UARP Issues Request for Applications for Collaborative Research Teams to Develop, Pilot and Evaluate an HIV/STI Prevention Intervention Addressing the Needs of a High-Risk Subpopulation of Mexican Migrants
This RFA is being issued to select an investigative team with expertise and capacity to collaboratively create, implement and evaluate a HIV/AIDS/STI prevention pilot intervention addressing the needs of a high-risk subpopulation of the Mexican migrant population in either San Diego or Fresno County, California. CHRP has allocated a total of $300,000 for this two year project.
